Welcome Spring!

Seriously what took you so long?

Make it up to me and send me some more of these 75 degree days, mmmm-k?

PS - this time of year I'm reminded of our scare a few years back and try to spread the word on the dangers of citronella oil.  If you're in the dark like I was a few years ago please read up and let's keep those babies safe!

Easy & Free Easter Door Decoration

I don't normally decorate for Easter but as the kids get older they get more and more excited about these things and nothing is better than a kid's excited at the holidays.  I figure there will be a very short window when they want to pose with Easter Bunny Masks (unless they turn into odd little adults) so I need to make the most of it while I still can.

This was took me 10 minutes, tops and had the boys squealing.

Using a white chalk marker (wipes off with water) I applied an Easter sign to our front door.  If you're an artist you can freehand it.  Since I'm not I did a google search for free Easter printables, printed one and taped it to the inside of the door and copied from the outside (if you reverse it your message will be backwards).

Happy Easter from our pit bull :)

What really had the boys rolling was when they saw I turned their pictures into bunnies!  Endless ideas.  I add Santa hats and Rudolph red noses at Christmas time and they love it (so much so that I wasn't able to wipe the santa hats off until St. Patricks Day).

Happy Easter!

Hop To It

In honor of Easter this Sunday - a quick, inexpensive craft for kids.  Between all my paint projects and all my little boys I have copious amounts of paint stirring sticks, pipe cleaners and puff balls.  The only 3 items needed to make a bunny mask!

It is pretty self explanatory.  Some paint sticks I spray primed with leftover spray paint from Brady's room project and the others I left au naturale.   I twisted 3 pipe cleaners around the top and glue gunned a puff ball for a nose.

Happy Easter!

Casting New Light

I came home from the boys' hockey practice to find a guy on a ladder with his hand in a hole in the ceiling.  Thankfully based on the name on his shirt he's my husband and not a stranger with his hand in the ceiling.

The light fixture that was there was original to the house.   Circa 1968.  I have no idea how we didn't rip it down sooner.  The project was so sudden he didn't take a before shot so here it is in the background of a kitchen photo.  A beauty.

Sean replaced it with an recessed eyeball can in its place.

Then we couldn't let its twin down the hall go ignored.

Crappy picture but even crappier when the light is on.  It gives me a headache.

After 6 years of searching for a fixture I found this guy.  The kids and the husband think it looks like a snare drum on the ceiling.  It does.

Pottery Barn
3 days later the fixture is in and already gives the hall a much more updated look.

Now that guy with his hand in the ceiling wants to repaint the hall.  Apparently he's done with the green.  I guess I am too.  This is how that happens.

Egg-cellent

This was a quick rainy day project the kids helped me with.

I picked up paper mache eggs from Jo-Anne Fabrics and spray primed them while I was priming the wood for the wainscoting.  Then the kids and I painted them with blue, pink and green craft paint.  I hot glued some striped string I found in the Target dollar section a while back.

The boys collected sticks in the yard and I arranged them and the eggs in a hurricane.

After I arranged them for the centerpiece I had some left over so I hung them from the dining room chandelier.

Bring it Easter Bunny, we're ready for you.
